If you are new to fly fishing or it has been a few years. We have a great option to get you into the game. Our half day lesson is four hours in length. We will teach you about all of the equipment and gear you will need. We will show you how to assemble, rig, and prepare your rod for a day of fishing. After everything is put together we will head to our spot, all public access, and go over wading the river safely. Once in the water your instructor will go over the finer points of casting a fly rod, mending a line, and with any luck, how to set the hook. Not only will you be learning about fly fishing, you will actually be fishing. Under the watchful eye of our competent instructors you will leave your lesson confident in your abilities to build on your new skills.
All you need to do is show up with a fishing license and combined angling tag. Bring a reusable water bottle and we will refill it throughout the day. A light snack is also a good idea to bring along with you. We will provide you with everything else. Rod, reel, flies, waders, and wading boots.
Every spot we hold our lessons will be public access. We believe the more folks who get out and enjoy the river the better. Our instructors are also our guides. Their spots on the river aren't closely held secrets. They will show you where to access the river and give you the knowledge to catch fish. Of course, they may not tell you what flies are working at the moment, but then again, figuring that out is part of the fun.
Our half day fly fishing lesson is the best price of our offered services. A four hour lesson is $200. If you have kids, their lesson is on us, as long as there is a paying adult with them. We love teaching kids. Their enthusiasm is contagious and they love time on the river.
Keep in mind, we will be wading in the river. Having a change of clothes in the car is a good idea. We will be flipping over rocks to learn what the fish are eating. Our lessons happen rain or shine. Bring weather appropriate clothing and a rain jacket. Your instructor will call the evening prior and let you know what you should bring.
Our full day float trip is 7 to 8 hours on the water. Travel time to and from the water is in addition to our river time. We will provide you with lunch, water, and other beverages such as sports drinks. Lunches will consist of simple sandwiches, chips, and snacks. During the winter months, when we concentrate on winter steelhead, the guide may opt to prepare a shore lunch.
